Once upon a time we used to name our pups ‘Rover’ and ‘Bella’, but now we seem to be naming our dogs after the pop culture, famous movies and even after our pup’s heritage! Read on more to find out the most popular girl and boy names of 2016!
‘Bear’ seemed to be a popular dog name of 2016, how could you resist? The very cute name could belong to a larger dog such as a Newfoundland or even a smaller breed like a Pomeranian! Another admired name of 2016 was ‘Max’. Max seems to be quite a popular name regularly but 2016 saw a big hit with this name. It actually means ‘greatest’, but we like it because it’s simple, easy and the name has a big reputation! Max is also the name of the companion for the Grinch in ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’!
We also really love ‘Duke’, it screams leader and ‘I own this park’. It’s shortened down from Marmaduke, which is also another really popular dog name. If you want your pooch to have a name from old English roots with an All-American sound then why not try ‘Hudson’? Hudson seemed to really hit it off with dogs owners in 2016! The name sounds strong, Brave and also a bit hipster-like! Last of the most popular male dogs names in 2016 was ‘Toby’. Toby’s quite a ‘Traditional’ dog name. It’s short and sweet and is perfect for a small breed!
Now onto the female names, Starting with ‘Elsa’, yes, like the movie ‘Frozen’. You might think it’s silly but it’s actually a really popular name. Though the name originates from a popular family movie, the name can have a lot more meaning than you might think. Elsa would be perfect for a Scandinavian/ Nordic breed such as a Dunker or Swedish Vallhund because the film has a Nordic background. A well-like name that made it into the popular name list was ‘Ivy’. Some may say that Ivy came from Kim Kardashian’s Daughter ‘Blue Ivy’, but it actually didn’t. people seemed to like the name because it means ‘Faithfulness’. Ivy stands for a pup that is loyal and can give you companionship. The name could suit dogs all of breeds!
This is our most favourite of the ten.. ‘Stella’! We love this name because it means star! This name would be perfect for a little pup who lights up your life the minute you brought her home! Or maybe you might want to name your pooch after the popular 2016 name ‘Sadie’. Sadie sounds very sweet, cute and means princess! And last but most definitely not least is for all of those hardcore ‘Harry Potter’ fans, why not name your pooch after a HP character known as ‘Luna’? As the name means Moon, it would be great for a pup that’s bright and powerful!
