As the festive season is right around the corner, what Christmas foods should our pups avoid to keep the jolly cheer right through to new year!
Chocolate is a big NO all year round, but because treat is more accessible and widely available around the festive season, those little paws can easily ‘grab’ hold of chocolate which could end up killing them. It may be very tasty to us, but to dogs it’s a massive danger. Chocolate contains Theobromine which can be deadly to dogs, even if it’s a very small amounts. The easiest way to avoid this is keeping it out of reach of all times.
Most nuts are toxic to dogs, so are another food to avoid. Their stomachs find them hard to digest and depending on the size, your pup may choke on it. Though some nuts are fine in small quantities it’s better to be safe than sorry.
(3) Mince Pie, Christmas Pudding and Fruit Cake
These treats may be an obvious one but they’re a lot worse then you might think. They’re full of fats which are very dangerous to dogs. the festive treats are full of dries fruits such as grapes, raisins, sultanas and currants which are fatal to your pups; you should seek veterinary help if you dogs does eat these foods. Also they can contain alcohol.
Though your pooch may not sit there and drink alcohol, they may try and lick it out of your cup or alcohol could be present in some foods. If they do they could be at a risk of alcohol poisoning, also know as ethanol toxicosis. For us, alcohol can cause you to pass out, but in dogs this could be a lot more severe, because even though they;re not drinking a whole glass even a lick can change their behaviour.
(5) Milk and Other Dairy Products
Dogs have a huge difficulty digesting lactose products so make sure your pooches don’t get hold of Santa’s milk!
Other foods around Christmas to avoid are things such as Avocados, Pigs in Blankets, Gravy, Herbs and spices and onions.
