We have created a list of our favourite big breeds of dogs to let you know that cute dogs don’t just have to be small! Happy Reading Gencon Lovers!
Larger breeded dogs are mainly picked by the people saying “Bigger is better”, but it’s true, bigger CAN be better! Some breeds were meant for guard dogs or hunters. The large dog breeds that were bred to work all day will need daily activity to work off their energy, so it’ best to check if you have enough time to care for a big dog such as a Bernese Mountain dog or a Black Russian Terrier.
The Great Dane
Great Dane’s are friendly, patient and dependable. The Great Dane is part of the working group. The breed’s short coat means it need little maintenance, good nutrition is very important from puppy hood to their senior years, they enjoy a good walk two to three times a day and Great Danes are known to usually be a very healthy breed.
Bernese Mountain Dog
Bernese Mountain Dogs are known to be good-natured and calm and strong. The Bernese Mountain dog is also part of the working group and the Bernese is one of four varieties of the Swiss mountain dog. They need very good nutrition from puppy hood to senior years, they tend to shed considerably and need brushing regularly so their coat doesn’t get matted, Bernese Mountain dogs love outdoor activities, including hiking and pulling small children in carts (as weird as it sounds) and these breeds can be very healthy!
Black Russian Terrier
The Black Russian Terrier can be calm, smart, confident, courageous, protective of loved ones and aloof of strangers. They are also part of the working group. They are a well-bred and socialised dog, they are loving towards family and reserves around strangers. They require regular brushing so their coats dont’ get matted, are generally a healthy breed and good nutrition is key for the Bernese Mountain dog!
